 | Tomatoes need a well fed soil - preferably treated with compost or rotted manure. When growing in pots, choose a rich compost such as Danu or Natures Own.
Unless otherwise indicated, varieties listed here produce tall, indeterminate plants. The main shoot of these would grow indefinitely, given the right conditions. However, the growing point is normally pinched out after a certain number of fruit trusses have formed depending upon the location and conditions. The plant is tied to some form of support and the side shoots are removed. A few varieties have a bush habit. These usually grow several side branches and there is rarely a main shoot. The result is a sprawling plant which can be grown without support, although some staking may be required to keep the fruit off the ground. All side shoots are usually left to grow, and they ‘stop’ themselves.
All can be grown under glass or outside except where specified. |
